Up-and-coming historic city on the border of Chicago.
Only 13 miles west of Chicago lies the small city of LaGrange. Home to only around 16,000 residents, LaGrange offers more small-town charm than a big city atmosphere, and for many of its residents, that’s one of its main attractions. Home to many trendy bars and cafes and a varied real estate market, LaGrange is an often overlooked haven for professionals and families looking to live close to Chicago without necessarily living in the city itself. With much to offer homeowners, from large family homes to beautifully built townhouses, LaGrange is booming with potential, especially in its quaint and thriving downtown districts.
Originally a milk stop in a primarily agricultural region, LaGrange has become a conveniently located, popular city with many excellent real estate offerings available to prospective home buyers. Near the city center, many townhomes have been designed in Victorian style while, moving out of the bustle of the city’s downtown districts, architecture skews more towards Prairie School and Queen Anne, with most homes boasting large lots and well-kept gardens.
Due to its proximity, many LaGrange residents are professionals from Chicago who prefer a small-town ambiance but still need to commute into the city for work. The county’s excellent schools and many nearby towns and attractions mean there is always something to do in the city, and most residents play a very active role in the community. With a large percentage of LaGrange residents made up of families, the city specializes in providing entertainment and fun for the whole family to join in on, and, in true involved-LaGrange resident style, most of the people who call the city home love taking part in public events.
LaGrange has much to offer its residents when it comes to delicious food and popular dining destinations. Milk Money Brewing is extremely popular among locals for its rotating list of craft beers, its brewery merch, and delicious pub grub. For barbecue lovers, no one does it better than Q-BBQ, a fast-casual smokehouse bringing only the best regionally inspired smoked meats and mouth-watering homemade sides to its loyal customers.
For all local pet parents and animal lovers, there’s no better place to stock up on canine and feline essentials and treats than The Urban Mutt. This specialty pet supply store stocks everything from treats to food to toys and accessories so your pooch can feel like royalty. And should you crave a relaxing day at a luxurious spa, unwind from the stresses of the day at the Primal Oceans Salt Cave. This unique day spa is located in a hideaway covered in pink Himalayan salt. Like its location, the treatments offered are equally unique, including a sensory immersion zen bed and an amethyst biomat experience.
LaGrange hosts several popular festivals and events throughout the year. From the Pet Parade, which has been a city staple since 1947 and brings animals and their owners to the city streets, to the LaGrange Endless SummerFest, which brings a carnival and gourmet food and drinks to the city’s residents. Another wildly popular annual event is the West End Arts Festival, which brings fine art shopping and appreciation to the artists, art lovers, and curious residents of LaGrange.
And, for those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Salt Creek Greenway Trail offers 25 miles of biking and hiking trails through a beautiful green park.
